Why begin therapy?
Sometimes in life we come into periods of feeling mystified and need help sorting out the confusion we feel. There could also be long standing psychological problems you need to address to further life’s goals. Anxiety, trauma, depression, life’s transitions like divorce may need healing. Often we seek the counsel of a therapist to pursue our personal growth and exploration. Therapy is right for you if you are interested in taking responsibility, choosing to create increased self awareness, and taking action towards change in your life.
What can I expect of therapy?
In therapy with Windy you can expect to be treated with respect, compassion and understanding. Therapy is short or long term depending on your needs and goals.
Generally a session consists of 50 minutes once a week. For therapy to be most effective you will need to be an active participant in the session and during the week in between.
For the most part the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and psychotherapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client.
There are some exceptions required by law to this rule. The exceptions are as follows:
Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. A therapist is required by law to report to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist is required to notify the police.
If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure her/his safety. However, if an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.
